This weekend, we celebrate two important feasts: The Solemnity of All Saints and the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day). All Saints Day honors the saints in heaven while All Souls Day is a day of prayer for those who have died, and in a particular way, for those who are in purgatory. Both of these days are a beautiful reminder of the interconnectedness of life on earth and life in heaven. They also highlight in a very special way our Catholic belief in eternal life and the spiritual work of mercy to pray for the living and the dead.
As an active member of Lumen Christi, even if you are physically unable to volunteer at a food pantry or serve as a catechist, every person can pray, and your prayers for those who are listed in the bulletin and for those who have died are a way to serve in at least one volunteer ministry. There is power in our prayer, and we invite you to especially pray for the communion of saints this weekend and commit praying for them throughout the year.
