In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus instructs 72 to go forth ahead of Him with “no money bag”. Can you imagine actually doing this today? How would we eat, buy our morning latte, keep nice shoes on our feet, pay for transportation…? It almost seems inconceivable! Yet, 72 did just that. They trusted in Him and relied on the gifts that God had already bestowed upon them in addition to the generosity of others along the way to provide for their needs. Lumen Christi Church is placed intentionally in the heart of Mequon to provide for spiritual and educational needs of the community, reminding all who enter the doors that God always provides.
We know inherently that all that we have comes from God. “You are being enriched in every way for all generosity, which through us produces thanksgiving to God” writes St. Paul in chapter 9 of 2nd Corinthians. As we start the second half of 2025, I invite you to reflect: What have you given to charities so far this year? Have you donated to Lumen Christi? Regular financial giving to the Church is important and invites us to let go of some of our riches for the benefit of others. By giving generously from our gifts (either monetarily or through service), we are actually glorifying God and is an act of evangelization because it attracts others to the Church. WOW!
Lumen Christi is not unique; all churches rely on contributions to operate. We cannot be One Family Sharing the Love and Light of Christ without an operating budget and contributions to fund that budget and the many ministries that ultimately serve you!
