This week’s Gospel from Luke chapter 14 subtly encourages “budgeting”, which happens to be one of my favorite duties as an accountant! The line “which of you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its completion” probably strikes a chord for many of us, who run a household and (hopefully) are familiar with a budget. Lumen Christi Parish responsibly creates an annual budget so that we may be good stewards of our costs, and we rely on contributed gifts to cover these costs. For church to be Church for our community, it costs something. That is where our parishioner’s role of steadfast and regular giving comes in, and it is important. Contributing to Lumen Christi and giving of one’s possessions to those in need so that we can carry out the church’s mission in Mequon/Thiensville and beyond, is a way to follow Jesus, is an essential act of worship, and is one of the four pillars of Active Membership.
