All the readings on the Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Times emphasize the need to live life the way that Christ did, especially helping those in need. Many times, it is impossible to be involved in volunteer programs in parish life. We can, however, be generous in our giving to support the many programs we have and contribute to our parish community’s reputation of being generous servants of Christ.
Amos’s words in the first reading challenge those who are complacent and at ease. People living their lives for their own enjoyment without thought to others or even God. Not really the way of Christ that He showed us in Scriptures. The outcome of these people was that they were the first to go into exile. Not especially a happy ending or is it really the way to live? In our second reading, Paul links Timothy’s witness to the public witness of Jesus before Pilate. What a great reminder that Christ is our model in ALL things. Our lives bear witness to Jesus so that others might see Jesus in our words and deeds. The main theme of Luke’s Gospel of the rich man and Lazarus is a reminder for those who do not heed God’s words on how to treat others and live only for themselves. We see the outcome of the rich man is again not a happy ending or the way to live.
First, thank you to all our parishioners who continue to support the parish financially. You can simply open this bulletin and see where the contributions go and how this community of faith has lifted the burdens and needs of others in many ways. Never underestimate what your contributions do to help us carry the message of Christ to so many. May we all continue to model our lives by the very example of Christ.
