Knights of Columbus announce 2025 Essay Winners

The Knights of Columbus St Pope John XXIII Council 5438 in Mequon have announced the winners of its 2025 8th grade Catholic Citizen Essay Contest. This contest gives students an opportunity to define the role of a Catholic Citizen in many different scenarios and strengthens the bond between the Knights of Columbus, Lumen Christi school, and public schools.

The theme this year, appropriate given the new election of a pope, was “There have been 267 Popes since Jesus Christ who laid the foundation for the Catholic Church. Who are your 3 favorite popes? Why?”

There were 28 entrants from the Mequon area. The winners were announced and prizes awarded (Marcus Theatre gift certificates) on Tuesday, December 9th at Lumen Christi School. Congratulations to all winners and participants!

The winners are:  

• 1st Place: Katey
• 2nd Place: Emma
• 3rd Place: Sophia
• Honorable Mention: Karina & Tatum

The winners and their essays will now move on to the Milwaukee Archdiocesan competition where judging will occur in February.
