In October, the Catholic Church in the United States celebrates Respect Life Month, and the first Sunday of October is designated as Respect Life Sunday. This year’s Respect Life theme is “Life: Our Sign of Hope.”

Week 1
“We are called to be signs of hope to all people, especially those whose goodness, value, and dignity are undermined. As members of the Body of Christ, we carry this hope with us as we continue Jesus’ mission on earth… We have been entrusted with a message of hope for the woman who finds herself unexpectedly pregnant or for the man diagnosed with a terminal illness. At these challenging moments, we must bring God’s presence, witnessing to His love, and inspiring a renewal of hope in those whose hearts are burdened.”

Giving Tree & Additional Resources

Giving Tree CollectionThe annual Giving Tree collection takes place during Respect Life Month to support a local pregnancy resource center and senior living facility. The Catholic Church upholds the life and dignity of the human person as sacred from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death. The Giving Tree collection is one small way that the Lumen Christi community can support and promote this fundamental teaching. This year's Giving Tree collection will benefit the Women's Support Center and Lasata Senior Living. Below is a list of items in need:
Women's Support Center- baby clothing
- baby soaps/shampoos
- diapers & wipes
- boppy pillows
- diaper bags
- neutral receiving blankets
Lasata Senior Living- playing cards
- items for bingo prizes (small lotions, small body wash, small body sprays, candy bars, small beanie babies)
- markers & colored pencils for coloring
- paints (acrylics)
- canvases to paint on
Donations will be collected throughout the month of October and must be dropped off inside the north entrance no later than Friday, October 31. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

A Prayer for Hope
Heavenly Father, in the sacrament of Baptism, you have given us the gift of new life. Through your son our Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, you have made us your own.Help us to recognize the gift of human life as a sign of hope in our world.
Reveal to us the places where your precious gift of life is most in need of protection and strengthen us to defend life in all stages and circumstances, from the child in the womb to the elderly and dying.
Guided by your Holy Spirit, guard us from discouragement and give us the grace to be messengers of hope, filled with confidence that nothing can separate us from your love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
